Save Carbon Emissions By Mingling
By using the Mingleverse MingleRoom service you are helping to prevent thousands of tons of transport-related greenhouse gases from being emitted into the atmosphere.
Minglers set their location in their profiles and this information is used to calculate how much carbon-dioxide-equivalent would have been emitted if they had travelled to meet in person.
The calculation depends on the length of the “journey” that would have been undertaken. Below 200km, we assume you would have travelled by car, between 200 and 500km we assume a short-haul flight and above 500km we use a long-haul flight calculation. For each of these journey types we use a different value for the average amount of carbon emitted per kilometer.

For example:
John lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. He works for a successful company based out of San Francisco, California. His company is hosting a monthly business meeting in downtown San Francisco and John is required to attend.
On Friday, John is scheduled to fly to San Francisco, California to attend the business meeting over the weekend. Upon arrival, John must rent a car to drive to downtown San Francisco from the airport.
On Monday, once the meeting has concluded, John must drive back to the airport and catch his flight to Vancouver.
After all is said and done, John would have personally contributed to approximately 280 kilograms of CO2 being emitted into the atmoshpere.* This isn’t incuding the other employees that will be required to travel in order to attend the business meeting.
